Heavy-Mirrors
In a gloomy dark room, two sets of mirrors were installed facing each other and made the main part of the Installation. The mirrors were the only objects found in the cells of the Koepel prison 'Koepelgevangenis'. The installation was placed in cell 21, to contemplate the history of the building as a previous panopticon where strict punishment systems were used that denied prisoners from communicating with each other, in return gave each one an hour a day to see the sky.
This site-specific installation, on one hand, is trying to approach these moments, as a way to touch and understand the harsh circumstances that used to be lived inside the prison walls. On the other hand, is trying to refer to personal moments and to the feeling of being trapped regardless of the physically locked doors. One that is shared with the reversed writing on the wall which only can be read through the mirrors.
